Summers at OAT

This was written by me on 6th of July, but I was not able to post it due to my busy travel schedules and lack of resources.
So finally my summer internship at One Associates Technologies Pvt Ltd is over. So I thought I must share my experience. OAT is a small startup by Mr. Neeraj Kapoor (an IT BHU alumnus) and Mr. Himanshu Singh (IIT Kanpur alumnus). The company provides services in the mobile technology and web development. During my two months internship I got opportunity to work on some very exciting projects. My first project was the promotional website of motion picture Damage (http://www.damagethemovie.com) starring Stone Cold Steve Austin. The movie is scheduled to be released in January 2009. Working on this was fun for a Stone Cold fan like me , I loved this project.
My second assignment was corporate website of OAT itself (http://www.one-associates.com) this project was not that engrossing as the previous one but I enjoyed doing it. Both websites were made using ASP .NET with client side scripting using EMCA.I even designed this logo which is now official logo of OAT.
Then temporarily I was on a project of website for Nasser Entertainment (http://www.moviesfortv.com) , but I requested the company to move me from this project to some other where I could get greater opportunity to learn. So I was assigned the project of CRM application for a leading organization in India. This was a SOA based SaaS which was developed right from scratch by me and Vidit bhaiya. The best was part was that we worked on a very new technology and in a live project all by ourselves with liberty to make slightest decision by ourselves. And at the end we got the opportunity to meet the client for demo of software. This was the bumper bonus because that was great experience to actually present your software’s demo to client.
So overall I had a great experience at my summers. With an expenditure of around 10k which includes local site seeing and attending AR Rahman live in concert ,this was not a bad deal !!

Yesterday was a great day to learn !!

Ya ... and I think it was the best day of my 2 months summer internship. We went to present the demo of our software to the client. That was truely a great experience to actually meet the clients , present the demos and listen to their issues and changes that they requested to be modified. That was my first corporate meeting where I truely learned what is software industry and is a tough place for timid coder who does not know how to value his work. If you want to make money from your work then you don't have to wait the otherone to appreciate your work, rather you must force him to believe that the work you did was tough and and valueble . Because the person on the other side of table is gonna be tough on paying you every single rupee from his pocket. It becomes tougher if you are a small company and are dealing with a large one.

In our case also we have been working for them without any payment without the assurance that they gonna approve it when complete.

This girl has got guts...

Last year we heard of a 16 year old boy who convinced his parents to allow him to dop out from school so that he can concentrate on his professional gaming career in Guitar Hero...

Now we have another teenager .. but this time a girl ... who has decided to drop from school so that she can concentrate on her proffessional counter strike career.

Sophie 'inzane' Regnér, one of the Pink Zinic's, has decided to leave school due to being unable to concentrate fully to her academics. She decided that it would be better for her proffessional career that she drops from school and focuses on counter-strike. She want to be a full time Counter-strike player. inzane who is 17 years old also does modelling for her friend.

Former MYM.girls , Pink zinic who has announced their participation in dreamhack summer 2009 is a proffessional counter-strike team of some of the best female e-athletes.

Another blow by this "1"

Jason Lake aka "1" knows how to be number 1. This time Jason Lake has

proved that he can do anything to be number one. Brand Complexity no

doubt means to be best wether its the 1.6 scene or the source complexity

has proved itself.
So this time Lake instead of making a new team and taking it to the top complexity gaming has simply bought the already top team . Yes ! Complexity had bought all the contracts of x3o , which I think is currently top team of America.

So the new coL will be :

Andrew "Irukandji" Timmerman
Ryan "Ninespot" Bell
David "savi0r" Park
Jeff "hero" Mettetal
Derek "dboorN" Boorn

Old school expels its oldest kids !

In a very much expected event the Complexity Gaming has a announced release of its CS 1.6 squad. After very poor peroformance by the team which left them just as a mediocre team from USA, they were not able to gain rights to play in any of the recent International tournaments. Jason Lake said he was very disappointed by this and the brand Complexity was not defined by this team.Complexity currently ranked 9th in ESEA league has an All-star squad of some the mmost experienced e-athletes.But since their induction after the fall of CGS they have never been able to give performance that would be expected from a team like that.
The rooster contained :
  • Justin "sunman" Summy
  • Mike "method" So
  • David "zid" Chin
  • Sal "Volcano" Garozzo
  • Erik "da_bears" Stromberg

Statement from Lake posted on complexitygaming.com.
"We feel an integral part of this rebuilding process is the construction of a championship caliber Counter-Strike squad worthy of representing the world’s best gaming community: the coL Community. We will not rest, nor be satisfied, until we once again find the championship combination of players that possess the traits necessary to earn a long standing tenure with our organization and make our fans proud. With that being said, most of our research has already been conducted and we expect to announce the new roster very soon."

The new Complexity roster is expected to be released in the coming days as Jason Lake that the research for new squad has been carried for a while and the draft will be announced soon.
The complete announcement by Complexity Gaming can be read at http://www.complexitygaming.com/index.php?c=news&id=902

Moreover Sal "Volcano" Garozzo has announced retirement from Proffessional Gaming because he has found a full time job (for those who don't know he has a degree in Computer Science).

Thanks to Valve !!

Its really cool to know that Valve has released another pack of updates to the best game of the world. These new updates will greatly improve the gameplay of CS 1.6 because most of these update are for the bugs that have been nightmares for the competititve gaming for years, which gave birth to a large number of disputes both on LAN and internet.
Though the Valve took back all its updates that were part of its recent attempt to abolish crouch walking due to huge negative response from fans around the globe. We hope Valve will come with some other way to abolish this extremely exploited part of game which will be accepted by fans too.

In the latest updates Valve has -
* Rolled back recent silent walking exploit fixes as we investigate less impactful ways of preventing the bug* Adjusted bomb bounding box to prevent silent plant exploit* Fix to eliminate or significantly reduce "flashbugs"* Fixed status icons (buy zone, bomb zone, etc) disappearing when starting a recording, or issuing a fullupdate* Prevent creating aliases using the same name as existing cvars* Rate limit fullupdate and some other commands to prevent spamming* Fixed an issue with grenades where they could go into an area and bounce infinitely, causing the server to choke and or crash

Many of these updates to 1.6 have been a long time coming, and also hopefully will have a positive impact on the competitive scene, the removal of flash bugs and silent planting will greatly reduce possible disputes in both online and LAN play, along with the reversal of the botched fix Valve implemented last month for crouch hopping should improve competitive play at all levels.Other updates such as the nade bouncing fix and the buy zone when recording fix are sure to be much appreciated and it's nice that someone at valve took the time to fix some of these old bugs, hopefully with continued support by Valve 1.6 will keep becoming a more bug free game for all of us to enjoy for many more years to come.

Offscreen bloodshed stains Counter-Strike

This is a consequence that is always been talked about by people. Video games turn gamers violent. In Novosibirsk, Russia, a simple one on one game of Counter-Strike ended in the brutal murder of a seventeen-year-old by his fourteen-year-old rival. This is indeed shocking !!!

According to the investigation report on the Novosibirsk Prosecutor’s Office website, the two boys had met at a local cyber café to play Counter-Strike together. Alexei, the older of the two boys, had continuously defeated his younger rival which led to several fights breaking out, only to be broken up by the café's administrator. During the night, both boys were drinking alcohol and continued to play the game, despite their rapidly degrading relationship.
After yet another defeat Alexander decided to take revenge on Alexei.

With his another 17-year-old friend he waited outside until around 3 a.m. when Alexei finished playing and left the club. Then Alexander hit him with a brick on the head, and beat him to death. The half-buried body was discovered the following morning by residents. In court the killer testified that his older friend just stood by and watched the murder. He was found guilty and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment at a penal colony for minors.

This shocking event will surely lead to another debate about cons and pros of Video Games especially one that deals with violence and bloodshed.

Flashbug can be removed from CS 1.6 in near future

In the official CS 1.6 BETA Forum, Valve developer Toni Sergi has posted that he has found a possible fix for the infamous flash bug that has plagued Counter Strike for years. The developer apparently was able to do a very quick fix for this problem. Valve has come under fire in recent days for its patch to fix "Russian Walking".

The "flashbug" caused the flash grenade to effect players in areas where it should not and has been the cause of many disputes in competitive CS over the years. The bug was so important to the competitive community that "flash bug fixed maps" were used by most leagues and professional organizations. No estimated time for when the fix will be implemented has been given.

Below is a snippet from the posts by Valve developer Toni Sergi.

"Okay, I just worked out a potential fix; it at the very least fixed THAT one, it _should_ fix all of them though."

"I read the thread, went for a smoke, had an idea for what's causing it from the youtube video tested it out unmodified to duplicate the bug (by making the flashbang not explode for 20 seconds so i could get into position), went 'hmmm..', made the change to attempt to fix it, went in and tested again, no flash in tunnel. but i can still be flashed under normal circumstance." -Toni Sergi

I feel so lonely.....

Lonely am I
jim foulk

Lonely are the nights
Lonely are the days
Lonely am I, in so many ways
Lonely are the seasons

Lonely are the years
So lonely am I, that it brings tears.
Lonely is this place
Lonely is my life

Lonely am I, that I reach for a knife
Lonely is this court room
Lonely is my sentence

So lonely am I that I ask for repentance.

Major Update in Counter-Strike

Valve has released a major gameplay update in Counter-Strike . The update has faced heavy criticism by the community. Cries of "CS is dead", "I'll never play again" and "PLEASE ROLL IT BACK" are being heard community wide.

This update tends to remove the crouch walk exploit of the game. Sound has been given to any jump motion. Moreover the motion of a player will slow down whenever he presses the duck key. This would make a significant change to established competitive gameplay as many players and teams utilize the secrecy of silence during gameplay. Though there were some bugs in it which were removed by another update.
This new update primarily addresses an issue concerning the jump sounds in the game. It contains two fixes for the update released just the other day.
• Fix the wrong sounds being played on jump when moving to different surfaces
• Fixed crash in the spectator UI when hitting tab
Hence now this anti crouch walking update has no bugs also and seems to completely remove crouch walking or so called russina walk from game.
As far as I think this update will improve the gameplay as crouch walking was essentially a bug in itself which must be removed. Kudos for Valve for this great update. Though the jumping noise will be a nuisance in beginning but players will be accustomed soon to it. Similar was the frenziness in people when Valve released its update to abolish bunny-hop(Which was much easy at that time and a person could do it by merely pressing his +jump key continuosly). This update just improved the gameplay and same will happen with this new update.

Numb..

I Hate this world..

Its all about me.......

Thats right ...its all about me. Everything that I did and I am doing or I will do is all for me. I dont care for others . It doesn't matter what he thinks or what he expects, because all that matters is me..its all about me. Dont even give a shit to this crap..but nothing can change it . Its always been like this and it will be.

I am smart enogh to take my steps and live my life. Rather I think I am smarter than you are. Though you hellucinate of your smartness and supiriority but thats not true folk. The truth hurts...

I wont tell you what I am upto..becuase then you will try to stop me..because you are jealous of me..you fear me... accept it !! Thats the truth !!

Even I dont want to hinder my path..so I won't tell you where I am heading untill I reach there. You will surely know ..what are my plans, but not before they executed. Just sit back ..wait and watch me . This must be the way friend..
"FRIEND" ..aah.. I call you friend . But in reality no one is my friend atleast not you. I know you think the same about me .Neither me nor you know what a friend is ..and we never try to know. Because all that matters to me is all about me.

I tell lies and if I can't then I simply hide the truth, because the truth may hinder my way to my objective as you are always ready to grab my trophy. I perpetuate and hide reality because if you get to know it ..then it may harm me.Remember only one guy can climb a ladder at once, and I dont want you to be the one before me. So I hide the ladder till I climb it.You are such a dork that you can't see how I am manipulating you.

We may name our relation to as that of friendship, but this is life - pure competition . Every Man for himself..And its all about me......................

Will e-sports survive 2009 ?

Since the beginning, this year has been unfavourable for e-sports. The last few days of 2008 saw the downfall of mighty CGS, which brought an end to one of the most anticipated e-sport projects. Though a large community took it as victory of 1.6 over source, but what I think is that it was big defeat for professional gaming.

Then came 2009, with the winds of recession, which led to backing-off of sponsors, as they planned to cut their un-necessary expenses to prepare themselves for recession. With the calendar loosing its few first events, and surely more events could be cancelled. No doubt e-sports is all about sponsors. No sponsors means no e-sports. In the beginning of this year AMD declared it will no longer finance MTW , which used to be a very old alliance. NVIDIA showed its inability in supporting ESWC, Samsung reduced funds for WCG, due to which company refused to organize European Cyber Games this year, these all are a blow to this industry.

On April 5th, ESWC announced that the Commercial Court of Paris had approved a motion to liquidate its business. The company has ceased all operations . Although Games-Services has confirmed it is ready to “organize the potential trade-in or resale of the company’s assets”, the ESWC is most likely - 99,9% to be precise - dead. The company has collected huge debts worth over a thousand euros and that cools down interest from any possible purchaser. That means ESWC is History.

And even the ESL - touted by many as the main pillar of e-Sports nowadays - seems to be suffering the effects of the financial climate. In fact, the ESL has yet to pay the prize money of the European Nations Championship and the Extreme Masters Global Challenges.
Furthermore, it has been confirmed that the EPS Scandinavia Finals have been postponed because of "unforeseen and uncontrollable circumstances." A rearranged date has yet to be announced.

When looking at the seven members that compose the G7 federation, one can see that three of them - Meet Your Makers, mousesports and Evil Geniuses - proudly exhibit Intel as partner.
In fact, the U.S. company is also the ESL's head sponsor. So can imagine what would happen to today's e-Sports if Intel - which announced last week it would cut up to 6,000 jobs – takes back all financial support from these organizations.

MYM…around end of February ES Nation which is the funding agency of MYM, fired its 21 employees and then after a fortnight, on 17 march came the press releases stating that ES Nation has ceased all its operation, leaving few of the best e-athletes homeless. It didn’t even pay the last two month salary to its player before ceasing its operation. This has discouraged a large community to step back from professional gaming. Even professional like Lucifer of MYM Warcraft team, lurppis from crack clan retiring stating that there is no more stability in this business.

All these mark the beginning of a dark age for professional gaming, where the battle is not for growth but for survival. E-sports today may be weaker when compared to two years ago because of the financial climate. However, if the involved parties are able to cope with the current crisis and find new ways to do business, then tomorrow will only bring a stronger e-Sports.

If you follow the e-sports news than you must be aware that the JMC already had a 3D effect in it. Now Jason Bass and Alex "Jax" Conroy are co-owners of complexity gaming.. Jason Lake sems to be ready for the all new 1.6 arena in US.

As for his selection of JMC as their new squad, Lake cited "The combination of attitude, work ethic, selfless play and raw skill that this roster possesses will give our fans one hell of a fun ride in 2009. It will take them some time to get back into 1.6 form, but this organization is patient and relentless".Confirming that Conroy would place focus on managing the new lineup, Lake stated, "Alex will do what he does best and keep them in top form.
